What to pack for a day hike

If you’re wondering what to bring on one of our guided day hikes, then look no further than our handy hiking kit list.

The Essentials

  • Comfortable rucksack, capacity approximately 20-25 litres

  • 1-2 litres fluid

  • Food and snacks

  • Any medication or toiletries you might need - tissues and hand sanitiser are always handy

  • Extra layers and spare socks - pop these in a drybag or carrier bag to protect them

  • Power bank

Useful Extras

  • Sit mat - an easy way to avoid a cold, wet bum

  • Hiking poles - for extra stability and for testing bog depth

  • Emergency snacks

  • Camera

  • Binoculars

  • Wildlife identity guide/book

Autumn/Winter Extras

  • Warm drinks like tea or soup

  • Hat, gloves and scarf/neck tube

  • Microspikes, if snow or ice may be present

  • Hand warmers

Spring/Summer Extras

  • Extra fluids, and consider adding electrolytes

  • Sunhat

  • Suncream

  • Thin, long sleeved layers
